1. GEOGRAPHY & BORDERS Malta is an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily. It has three islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino. There are no mountains, rivers, or lakes. The land is rocky with many hills.
2. CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENT The climate is Mediterranean. It is very sunny with more than 300 days of sun per year. Summers are hot and winters are mild. There is not much fresh water.
3. CITIES & POLITICS Valletta is the capital and a UNESCO site. Mdina is the old capital, also called the "Silent City". Malta is a Republic and a member of the European Union. The currency is the Euro.

Population: 530,000 people.
History: Malta was a British colony for a long time. For this reason, English is an official language today.
Languages: Maltese and English.
Religion: Roman Catholic.
Food: Pastizzi (savory snacks) and rabbit stew.
Traditions: Colorful boats called Luzzu have eyes to protect fishermen from bad luck.
