💫 Anne Frank’s biography

Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who wrote a diary about living in the secret place during the Second World War, that is famous all over the world.

She was Born in 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, where she lived with her family: her sister Margot, her father Otto and her mother Edith.

In 1933 the Nazis and Hitler came to power and the hostility to the Jews increased, so they went to The Netherlands. In Amsterdam they were happy.

In 1939 the War broke out across Europe and the Nazy-German army invaded Poland. Jews had to wear a yellow star on their clothes, they were not allowed in the tram and they couldn't ride in cars and bicycles. They could attend only Jewish Schools.

In 1940 the German army occupied The Netherlands. In 1942 Margot received the letter for the labour camp and they all went into hiding behind Otto's business.

On 4th August 1944 the Frank family was captured and deported to the death camp Auschwitz - Birkenau.

In February 1945 Anne and Margot died of typhus in the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, Anne was only 15.

Otto Frank was the only one who survived the war. When he read the diary he understood how Anne had hoped to publish a book and her dream to become a writer, so he carried out her wish and published Anne's diary that is read all over the world and translated into many languages.

ANNE’s diary

Thursday, 9 July 1942

The hiding-place is in Father's office building. On the bottom floor is the warehouse, and next to it an entrance to the office, which is upstairs. There are two offices — a front one which is big and light, and a small dark one at the back(..).

Up on the third floor is our "Secret Annexe”. There are some attics for storage on the left, and on the right is the door to our hiding place. It's surprising that there are so many rooms behind that small grey door. Margot and I share a small room, and Mother and Father's bedroom is also our sitting-room. Up the stars again is a big light room which will be the kitchen and Mr and Mrs van Daan's bedroom. There is a very small room for Peter, their son, and another attic. So that's our lovely Annexe!

  3. Is there a kitchen on the first floor?
  4. What colour is the door that leads to the annexe?
  5. Which rooms are there on the Anne's bedroom floor?

Anne Frank

Anne Frank is a Jewish girl, born in 1929.

Her birthday is on 12th June.

She is from Frankfurt in Germany.

She is tall and thin. She has got long dark hair and dark eyes.

She is lively, smart, reflective, kind and smiling. She loves reading.

There are three people in her family: her mum Edith, her dad Otto and her big sister Margot.

The Franks are Jewish, but they aren't very religious. They live in an area with families of different faiths.

During World War Il she moves with her family to Amsterdam, in Holland, to hide from the Nazis. The Nazis are cruel soldiers of Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany. He thinks the German Aryan race is the "master race". He wants to arrest and kill the Jews.

Her father Otto sells spices and other ingredients for making sausages.

When the Nazis arrive in Holland the Franks go to live in the attic of father Otto's place of business. The entrance of that secret small house is behind a bookcase. There they stay very quiet and silent to be safe. They can't go outside or live a public life.

Anne is lonely and isolated from the world. She can't go to school or play with friends. Her only friend is Peter.

Peter lives with his parents in that very small secret house, too.

For her 13th birthday Anne gets a diary.

She likes writing in her diary about her life and family.

When she grows up she wants to be a writer or a journalist, but the Nazis find Anne and her family.

Anne ends her short life in a concentration camp.
