 Bonfire Night Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes Night, is a special event in the UK. People celebrate it on the 5th of November every year. It is about a man named Guy Fawkes. He is part of a group called the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. More than 400 years ago, Guy Fawkes and his friends want to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. They are angry because they do not agree with the king about their church. They put many barrels of gunpowder in the basement under Parliament. Butthe plan does not work. The guards find Guy Fawkes before he can light the explosives. Today, people in the UK remember this story. Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving is a holiday in the United States. People celebrate it every year on the fourth Thursday of November. Families eat a big meal together. They eat turkey, potatoes, vegetables, and pumpkin pie. A long time ago, in 1620, the Pilgrims come from England on a ship called the Mayflower. They want to live in America, but the first winter is very cold and difficult. They do not have enough food. The Pilgrims do not know how to grow food in the new land. The Native Americans who live there help the Pilgrims. They teach them how to plant corn, catch fish, and cook new foods. The Pilgrims are very grateful. They have a big meal to say thank you.
