 Lo Zero Conditional è in genere il primo tipo di frase condizionale inglese che gli studenti imparano, e per una buona ragione perché è la forma più elementare ed è molto comune

Usi lo Zero Conditional per parlare delle conseguenze delle abitudini generali e dei fatti permanenti/scientifici. 

(È molto simile al First Conditional, ma mentre il First Conditional si riferisce a una possibilità reale ora o in futuro, lo)

 Zero Conditional si riferisce al tempo generale. 

Per esempio,

If I exercise regularly, I feel really good. (Abitudine generale e conseguenza)

If you heat water to 100°C, it boils. (Fatto scientifico)

È una struttura davvero utile per parlare di conseguenze generali su argomenti come scienza e affari, ma anche studi, viaggi e tempo libero.

If + present simple, present simple.

If you study hard, you learn quickly.

Questa stessa struttura è comune anche con "quando". Per esempio,

When I’m hungry, I eat something.

Usare "‘when" significa semplicemente che è definito, mentre "if" esprime l'idea di una possibilità. Come con "if", non usiamo "will" vicino alla parola "when".

Alcuni esempi dello Zero Conditional

Esempi relativi al lavoro:

If we have a lot of work during the week, we do overtime on Saturday. 

If you work hard in my company, you get a pay rise.

If one of the computers doesn’t work, we call the IT department.

The production team calls the manager if there’s a serious issue to solve.

Esempi relativi allo studio:

If a student doesn’t understand something, the teacher explains.

You generally get better results if you study a lot.

If he doesn’t pass an exam, he gets upset.

If you put the theory into practice, it’s easier to remember the rules.

Esempi relativi al viaggio:

If we have a free weekend, we often visit a European city.

She prefers to take the train if she needs to travel far.

If you take a low-cost flight, the services are usually limited.

They choose a hotel in the city center if they only stay one night.

Fatti scientifici:

If you heat ice, it melts.

If you don’t water plants, they die.

If you add sugar to coffee, it sweetens the flavor.

You become overweight if you eat too much.

Esempi relativi al tempo libero:

If we visit friends, we normally take some cream cakes or a bottle of wine.

If it’s really cold, my friends and I stay in and watch a film.

If I can’t sleep, I read a book.

She finds a special recipe on internet if she has a dinner party.
